DIGITAL SAFETY AT ESUMC

As members of our church community, it is important to remember to be mindful and take extra precaution when engaging online. It is essential to stay safe when using the internet, as there are malicious actors who may attempt to take advantage of unsuspecting individuals.

One common form of malicious activity is "spoofing," when an email or text appears to come from a legitimate source, when in reality it is sent by someone with malicious intent. It is important to be aware of spoof messages, as they may contain links to malicious websites, or ask you to provide personal information.

Legitimate church emails will come from email addresses ending in @esumc.org, @ccbchurch.com, and @pushpay.com. For example:
communications@esumc.org
kbaker@esumc.org
esumc@ccbchurch.com

Spoofed emails might look like:
esumccommunications@gmail.com
kbaker.esumc@gmail.com

Note how these addresses utilize ESUMC "buzzwords", but do not come from an @esumc.org or other verified address.

If you receive an email or text that appears suspicious, do not open any attachments or click on any links. Do not reply to the message or provide any personal information. Instead, report the email to communications@esumc.org.

If you have any questions, feel free to reach out at communications@esumc.org.
