The Young Adult Ministries, or YAMs, at Edenton Street United Methodist Church aim to develop disciples for Christ through a community that provides spiritual support, nurtures faith, serves through missions, and offers fellowship events for young adults (20s-30s). It is our hope to share Christ from the heart of Raleigh in all that we do.
Our ministries include:
- SUNDAY SCHOOL CLASSES: There are two young adult Sunday School classes. Both young adult classes meet every Sunday at 9:45.
- The Agape Sunday School class is the longer standing class and they meet in room 164. Click this link for more information about the AGAPE class.
- The Elpis Sunday School class is our newest class. Elpis meets in room 165. Click this link for more information about the ELPIS class.
- SMALL GROUPS: The small groups consist of approximately 6-12 young adults who meet every week or every other week over the course of a few months to discuss topics related to their Christian faith and their Christian journey. The group sessions are guided by a Bible study, book study and/or other resources such as videos. Also, if you are a married couple, you may want to sign up for the marriage small group. Previous small group resources include Discovering God’s Will by Andy Stanley, The Life You’ve Always Wanted by John Ortberg, and Bible studies such as Mark's Message: Good News for the New Millennium by Justo Gonzalez.
SUPPER CLUB: The
Supper Clubs offer a great way to meet and get to know young adults at Edenton Street. A Supper Club consists of 8 to 10 people (singles and/or couples) who meet for dinner (or breakfast, brunch, or lunch) once a month. Each member of the group takes a turn hosting the dinner. You can organize a restaurant outing, host in your home, or plan a potluck. - SECOND SUNDAY LUNCH: A few times a year the young adults have an informational lunch announcing the YAMs calendar for the upcoming months. Sign-ups for many of the young adult ministries (such as small groups and supper clubs) occur during the second Sunday lunch.
MISSIONS AND SERVICE: The young adults participate in many mission projects that are organized through YAMs, the Agape Sunday School class, and the ESUMC missions coordinator. Past mission projects include April’s Angels, Camp Shalom Scholarships, Operation Sharehouse, Habitat for Humanity, Sandwich Brigade, and more. For more information about missions at ESUMC, visit the “missions” tab on the ESUMC homepage.
- UMW CIRCLE#3: This is a United Methodist Women's Circle for women in their 20s and 30s. The Circle meets the 3rd Tuesday of the month at 7pm alternating between a devotion at the church parlor and a social at a location to be announced. They provide support to Interact, a United Way agency that provides safety, support, and awareness for victims and survivors of domestic violence and rape/sexual assault.
- ATHLETICS: We field teams for sports such as softball and kickball. On Tuesday nights (when the softball team is not playing) the young adults host pick-up basketball in the Jones St. building. We are always open to new athletic opportunities.
- CHILI DINNER: In the Fall we host a chili cook-off. This time of fellowship allows you to show off your cooking skills and/or enjoy good food with friends.
- SOCIAL EVENTS AND RETREATS: From family picnics to a summer rafting retreat, from gathering for meals to small group opportunities, YAMs offers many opportunities for fellowship and spiritual “retreat.”
