What on earth is going on?  The world seems to be coming apart at the seams! Tsunamis…earthquakes…fires…tornadoes…cyclones…floods…disease …famine…terrorism…nations at war with one another…the Middle East, a time bomb waiting to explode…Iran threatening to blow Israel off the map…oil prices skyrocketing…economies crumbling! What on earth is going on? Are we approaching the end of civilization as we know it? Does the Bible address times such as these?

In Matthew 24 Jesus warned, “Watch out that no one deceives you…you will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places. All these are the beginning of birth pains.” Have the birth pains begun?

Do these questions get your attention? How about these… What happens the moment you die? Where do you go? Is there really a place called hell? Is there really a place called heaven? What are heaven and hell like? How can you be assured of heaven? Is there a day of judgment coming? How can a loving God allow all of the evil in the world to continue? Is Jesus really the only way to God? If you are interested in discovering the answers to these questions, then come and join the Men’s Study this fall and study the book of Revelation.

Revelation 1:3 states, “Blessed is the one who reads the words of this prophecy, and blessed are those who hear it and take to heart what is written in it, because the time is near” Do you want to be blessed by God? Then come and study the last book of the Bible, Revelation.

Disciple I image.jpg Disciple I:  34 Week Study on Monday afternoons from 3pm-5:30pm beginning September 9th.  This is study is led by Rev. Kay Johnson and gives the Old and New Testaments equal time, emphasizing the wholeness of the Bible as a revelation of God. DISCIPLE draws upon the work of scholars, the personal Bible reading and study of the participant, and dynamic group discussion to aid understanding of the Bible.   The first study in the program is DISCIPLE: BECOMING DISCIPLES THROUGH BIBLE STUDY, a thirty-four week overview of the entire Bible.  Register for this class on-line by clicking here.   Registration deadline is September 1st.

Disciple II image.jpg Disciple II:    This 32 Week Bible Study covers Genesis, Exodus, Luke, and Acts.  We will meet on Sundays from 4:30 - 7 p.m. beginning September 7th, 2008.  Led by Rev. Matt Ashburn.  Register on-line by clicking here.  Registration deadline is September 1st.

DISCIPLE: INTO THE WORD INTO THE WORLD is the second study in the four-phase Disciple program and is prepared for those who are graduates of DISCIPLE: BECOMING DISCIPLES THROUGH BIBLE STUDY . This study proclaims the transforming power of Scripture while teaching Bible study skills that take participants deeper into the Scripture. The importance of keeping Bible study related to witness is reinforced while participants are encouraged to practice spiritual disciplines arising out of Scripture for the purpose of changing habits and transforming lives. The study also emphasizes the rhythm of coming to God and going for God, of being in the Word and in the world individually and corporately. This study understands the growing Christian as under discipline in community and in ministry to the world. INTO THE WORD INTO THE WORLD approaches all experiences of life as opportunities for faithful witness and service.

Disciple III image.jpg Disciple III:   Led by Rev. Kay Johnson on Monday evenings from September 8th, this is a 32 week study.  Register for this class by the August 27th deadline by clicking here.

The driving idea in this study is the connection between memory and identity as the people of God. The word You in the title is meant to be heard both in its singular form (the individual) and its plural form (the community). We are a community of memory. Participants in this thirty – two week study will read the major and minor Old Testament prophets, with the exception of Daniel, and will read the thirteen Letters traditionally attributed to Paul. To establish the historical context in which the prophets spoke for God, daily reading assignments draw also on the books of Deuteronomy through Chronicles.

Several themes weave their way through the study – the call to remember; the call to repentance; the need for renewed vision; and the place of community. The prophets and Paul are continually calling hearers and readers back to their God and to a sense of who they are as a people “set apart”.

Christian Believer image.jpg CHRISTIAN BELIEVER assumes that most people--though faithful followers of Jesus they intend to be--know little of the content of the central teachings of the Christian faith and its ties to Scripture. But they want to know. They want to know what is at stake in what the church teaches and how it makes a difference in their own lives, what it means to be Christian, and where we as Christians stand. CHRISTIAN BELIEVER aims at addressing the uncertainty about the substance of the Christian faith and the connection between believing and living.  This 28 week study, led by Dr. Bill Weisser begins Sept. 10th and will meet weekly on Wednesdays from 10AM to Noon.  To register, click here.

Companions in Christ image.gif Companions in Christ is a 28 Week session on Spiritual Formation designed to “provide participants with an overview of the Christian spiritual life and the practices that help people enter into the formative pattern of Christ’s life, a life of prayer, study, and service.  Companions exposes you to spiritual wisdom and guidance  drawn from the full spectrum of our historic Christian heritage including contributions from early Christian leaders and reformers as well as modern spiritual writers."  Led by Judy Cox, this class will begin on September 2nd and be held from 6:00 to 8pm on  Tuesday evenings.  Click here to register for this class.
